Deer Management Guides

What is deer management and a deer manager? Historically a person in charge of culling or hunting the deer on his employers land was known as the Deer Stalker or Deer Keeper. Although this term is still used in some areas and circumstances the description of “Deer Manager” is more commonly used. A Deer Manager’s principle responsibilities are to maintain a healthy herd of deer, record overall numbers and plan culls to achieve a landowners objectives. They are also responsible for overseeing culling activities and recording deer impacts on habitat and crops. Once an animal has been culled they are required to prepare the carcass and make the checks required by law to pass the deer into the food chain.
